Career Consultations

Are you considering or in the process of a career transition? Did you know that the MSU WorkLife Office offers career consultations to faculty and staff as well as their partners/spouses? Career consultations include short-term assistance with things like exploring your interests and related careers, resumé/CV and cover letter writing, interview tips, help with a job search, and more! We can meet you exactly where you are in your career journey and begin from there.

Michigan State University is a member of the Higher Education Recruitment Consortium (HERC) and the host institution for the Michigan Regional HERC. HERC has a variety of free resources available for those looking to start or advance their career in higher ed including eBooks, webinars, and a monthly e-newsletter. In addition, they have a variety of more general resources for things like building a LinkedIn Profile, writing a resumé, tips for virtual interviewing, etc. The WorkLife Office can help you with your career transition and share these free HERC resources with you.

The WorkLife office also assists spouses/partners of new hires who have relocated and have not negotiated a dual hire offer. MSU recognizes that assisting dual career partners in finding employment is crucial to recruiting and retaining outstanding faculty and staff. Our services for dual career couples include orienting spouses/significant others with MSU Careers, HERC resources and navigating additional local career resources. In addition, we like to orient newcomers to employment opportunities in the Greater Lansing Area. We can also do things like explore career interests, work on refreshing resumés/CVs and cover letters and practice interviewing techniques.

The WorkLife Office is here to honor both your work and personal lives and we know how important your career is to you and your family. If any of these services would be helpful to you, I hope you’ll come visit us and let us assist you on your career path.
