2021 AgeAlive Butterfly and Flower Garden Exhibit

Local artist Zahrah Resh’s latest iteration of her wondrous butterfly garden installations will be open to the public at Michigan State University Federal Credit Union Headquarters between March 4 and April 30, 2021.

MSUFCU, Michigan State University’s AgeAlive, and Resh, AgeAlive’s artist in residence, are co-hosting the community exhibit. This exhibit exemplifies Michigan State University’s designation as an Age Friendly University and both organizations’ commitment to community engagement, responsiveness to social injustice, and good health and wellbeing for all people.

The MSUFCU African American Employee Resource Group (AAERG) and other ERGs played a lead role in the Garden, as a way to celebrate diversity and promote unity among us. This healing Butterfly and Flower Garden also honors the lives lost to the COVID-19 pandemic and recognizes the direct care workers, doctors, nurses, teachers, first responders, and health care workers who have treated and supported COVID-19 victims and their families.

The hundreds of beautiful paper flowers in the Garden were handmade by Resh. The paper butterflies were painted, folded, and tied by employees from almost every MSUFCU branch in the state and community members of all ages and backgrounds. Together, they transform the MSUFCU Headquarters’ lobby into a space where you can enjoy the beauty and solace of the garden and celebrate the butterfly’s symbolism of hope, strength, new life, and beauty.

The installation is free and open to the public, yet due to COVID-19 restrictions, visitors will be required to wear masks, follow occupancy guidelines, and take precautions to be socially distanced while viewing the lobby display.
