New Parent Series: Lactation Education and Newborn Care

Come join us for two-part New Parent Series. This series will consist of 4 sessions focused on Lactation Education during the month of February and 4 sessions focused on Newborn Care during the month of March.

All sessions will take place on Fridays, virtually through Zoom from 12-1pm.

Lactation Series: Fridays in February

Description-
Although lactation is natural, it is a learned skill. This four-part program is designed to give pregnant parents and their partners information on preparing to breast/chest feed and strategies for continuing to breast/chest feed upon returning to work.

  • Week 1 (2/3/23) from: Introduction to Lactation: Benefits, How Lactation Works
  • Week 2 (2/10/23): Baby is Here! Getting Started: The Mechanics of Lactation Positioning, Latching On, Feeding Patterns, Challenges
  • Week 3 (2/24/23): Maintaining Lactation: Lifestyle, Expressing and Storing Milk, Returning to Work
  • Week 4 (3/3/23): Lactation Transitions: Introducing Solid Foods and Weaning

Newborn Care Series: Fridays in March

Description-
Learn everything you need to know about taking care of and feeding your newborn, starting with the moment your baby is born. Class discussion on what to expect with a newborn: how to care for your newborn, soothing a crying baby, understanding infant sleep patterns, recognizing illness, car seat safety and adjusting to parenthood.

  • Week 1 (3/10/23): Newborn Traits, Newborn Behaviors
  • Week 2 (3/17/23): Crying, Comforting, and Diapering
  • Week 3 (3/24/23): Bathing and Newborn Health
  • Week 4 (3/31/23): Infant Safety and CPR

About the Speaker: Natosha Sage-El Bylsma

Natosha graduated from Michigan State University, Go Green! She has worked for Expectant Parents Organization as an instructor, primarily teaching Newborn Care, Breastfeeding and Infant Safety. As co-owner of Next Generation Lactation Service, she is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, serving the Mid MI area. She serves as the Chair on the Board of Directors for the Michigan Breastfeeding Network. Natosha is CPR certified as well as a Child Passenger Safety Technician. Currently, she has two boys who started her passion into the birth and lactation world and got married in 2021.
