Parental Leave Program

Representatives of the Administrative Professional Supervisors Association (APSA) and Administrative Professional Association (APA) negotiated with Michigan State University to produce the 2019-2023 contracts.

Both union contracts introduce a paid parental leave program, with an implementation date of January 1, 2021. On this date, eligible APA and APSA staff members will receive a maximum of four weeks of paid parental leave per year. On January 1, 2022, the APSA will continue to offer a maximum of four weeks of paid parental leave a year to eligible employees, while the APA will offer five weeks of paid parental leave. On January 1, 2023, the length of allowable paid parental leave per year will increase to six weeks for APA and APSA members. Paid parental leave will be compensated at the rate of 100% of the employee’s regular pay.
