Imagine a world where all children can see themselves in the pages of a book. Imagine a world where books can be windows to learn about other cultures, critical contributors to our world, and movements that have helped to shape our nation.

The MSU Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Celebration Planning Committee is hosting a virtual Stuff the Library event as a component of the week’s celebration. The event aims to fill libraries in local schools with books on topics of social justice and with characters representing diverse backgrounds.

Last year participation from the MSU and local communities surpassed the goal of $2,500 to raise $4,331 with 294 books donated, and 52 local schools participating. That’s a lot of books into the hands of children ages 0-18 in Ingham County and the surrounding area.

Our goal this year is to reach $7,500 again and 600 books donated to raise awareness, promote books with a diverse representation of people and topics, and to get books into the hands of children ages 0-18 in the Detroit Public School District, by partnering with local schools and organizations.

You can be involved in several ways:

SHOP 

  1. Amazon Wishlist and and mail books to the donation collection point address saved with the Amazon Wishlist. Books will be dispersed to local schools and organizations. Or shop a Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) owned bookstore or local book store like these bookshop.orghttps://www.liberationstationbookstore.com/ The Amazon list can still be referenced or you can choose a book of your liking that fits the theme! 
  2. BIPOC owned bookstores

DROP

  • in the mail – from BIPOC or local bookstores to: 
    WorkLife Office, C/O MLK Stuff Library, 479 West Circle Drive Linton Hall, Suite 116, East Lansing MI 48824 (Note: Mail only. This is not a drop off location.)

  • in person – new books you wish to donate at the MSU Library. There are donation boxes there. Contact Erik Ponder with any questions.
