2024 Take Your Child to Work Day Wrap Up

Date: April 25, 2024

Reflecting on a Rainy but Fun Day

The annual MSU Take Your Child to Work Day event is held each year during the month of April, so you never know what Michigan weather you’ll wake up to. This year’s event started as a misty, cool day but that didn’t stop our amazing Spartans for showing out for an amazing day. MSU’s departments and colleges were ready to host a variety of activities, career exploration opportunities, and tours, rain or shine! With over 1,600 registrants and the chance to get your photo with Sparty, this MSU community was determined to make a fun-filled day for hundreds of MSU employees and the special children in their life. At this year’s event, participants had the opportunity to participate in over 50 activities across campus ranging from nature based activities, sports related events, science based learning, and career exploration programs. Kids across campus were holding bugs at the Bug House, climbing trees with IPF, playing basketball at the IM East and so much more.

It was great! My grandkids cannot wait until next year! They have already picked out the events they want to do next year. They were sooo excited to meet Sparty!!!

Take Your Child to Work Day honors the work being done across campus and grows affinity of current and future Spartans, which builds a sense of community by valuing the diversity of work and people at MSU. This event promotes family engagement, creativity, and pride in our work, which are all important parts of employee wellbeing. Take Your Child to Work Day helps to positively identify the university as a place to learn and work, as a vibrant space for recreation, exercise, art, nature, science, and so much more.

A special thank you to all of our units and colleges across campus for offering amazing activities and tours, as well as a very important thank you to all of our participants for coming out and showing your Spartan pride… even with your rain boots on!

This was truly a phenomenal experience. As a still very new staff member here at MSU, being able to participate in such a program was indescribably impactful. I recognized the value the entire MSU community puts on the recognition & honoring of its employees’ lives outside of the office.
