Through a great deal of reflection, I cemented and confirmed some things that helped me to live through these past six months. I am working hard to fight and heal every day. I wish I had paid more attention to some things and less to others. Here are some of my take-aways.

We want to thank those who joined us to explore, dance, and play as we partnered to create connections and celebrate each child in an interactive, play-based, and supportive environment. We are fortunate to have the opportunity to partner with Allison Horne, Early Childhood Education Specialist, who has worked in the classroom as an early educator, a lab instructor for college students modeling best practices in early childhood development, as well as a consultant and parent coach sharing resources and support for local parents.
“Kari is a strong advocate and stands up for her staff and students whenever the need arises. Kari is frequently on the phone with colleagues across campus to troubleshoot issues and identify resources to support students. She goes above and beyond to help, and this makes a world of a difference for students,” says Julie Hagopian, Academic Advisor, College of Communication Arts and Sciences.
“I have witnessed firsthand how eloquently Deanna answers a barrage of difficult questions during our monthly all staff webinars about new policies or procedures that staff did not agree with or for which they needed more guidance. Her patient and thoughtful answers are truly exemplary for anyone in a leadership position,” says Marie Garcia, Executive Secretary II of the Health and Nutrition Institute.

Established in 2013, the Women’s Networking Association (WNA) seeks to connect professional women across campus through meaningful and empowering relationships. Providing an opportunity for women to network and support one another is an essential step for building women’s leadership at Michigan State University and in the Greater Lansing community.

WNA hosts monthly seminars which focus on professional development and leadership building. Seminars for AY22/23 will mainly occur on the third Wednesday of each month (besides where indicated as otherwise due to holidays or scheduling conflicts), varying from 12-1pm and 1-2pm presentation time slots. WNA programs are open to all but may have particular relevance to women-identifying individuals seeking to advance their careers or develop networking and leadership skills.

Learning Objectives:
1. Gain a broader understanding of the barriers to successful adaptation
2. Learn (or be reminded of) at least one skill for adapting successfully that you intend to put into effect
3. Feel more hopeful about your ability to handle life’s challenges

As a supervisor, it’s important for you to be able to recognize signs of stress and distress in your employees. Picking up on those signals can allow you to respond quickly and effectively with resources and guidance for your employees in need. In this third session of the 4-Part Supervisor Training Series, you will learn how to recognize the different signs of stress and distress, how to respond with empathy and care, as well as what resources are available to your employees on and off campus. 

In our fast-paced world, what is the secret to balancing all our responsibilities? Well, there is no secret or fix-all answer, but there are strategies and tactics for helping to manage it all. In this interactive session, learn tips for striking a "balance" that works for you and your unique blend of responsibilities. This session will also provide tools for reducing work-life stress and creating an environment that works for your multiple roles

It was with deep sadness and disappointment that I learned of the defacing of The Rock during Pride Month recently. When I came to MSU and learned of the traditions surrounding The Rock, it seemed like a great community-centered forum for expression, an interesting focal point on campus for ideas and engagement. It seemed to be a place for positive expression, where ideas can be expressed safely, without fear of defamation.

Starting with a news story from the BBC, we unpack the pressures of work and how they intersect with personal identities.

The WorLife Office is a strong advocate for support for Spartans who are caregivers - faculty, staff and students all benefit from the backup dependent care program, for example.  We appreciate the struggles, we see the challenges, and we are here for you.

As people who value strong community and equitable practices, we too condemn the misleading rhetoric and destructive behavior recently seen on Capitol Hill.
